My Grampa used to say, “Do what you like doing, even on the weekends.” As it turned out, I was blessed with a love of many things, which can be bit of curse when it comes to setting education and career goals. Money is important, but it’s never been as important to me as doing something I’m passionate about and doing that thing well.
My first love is Emergency Medical Services, having been a Firefighter/EMT in high school and a Nationally Registered Paramedic after that. Next, came my love of ground transportation logistics, thanks to two tours of active duty in the U. S. Air Force, where I drove, professionally, nearly every vehicle there is. From coach, transit and school busses to wreckers, tractor trailers, fire apparatus, and ambulances, I’ve driven it all. After that, I left the military and developed a love of programming and database development while teaching myself Classic ASP in VBScript, HTML, CSS and MySQL. Moving on to learn Visual Basic, C#, T-SQL, and ASP.NET, I’ve steadily increased my tech skills ever since.
With a clinical background in patient care and the technical experience I gained as an developer, healthcare IT seemed a natural choice. That’s when I discovered the complexities of our nation’s health care system and more specifically, the healthcare insurance claims adjudication process. My love of healthcare revenue cycle was born.
What consumes me these days, though, involves a lot of books, a comfortable chair, and a rock’n fast PC because I’m full on in love with Microsoft database development. Updating my technical skills and obtaining new ones has been my only focus since early 2017 and I’ve come leaps and bounds since then.
Now, you’ll find me tapping away at the keyboard, seven days a week. That’s why it’s called “Seven Days of Schema” and I’m pretty sure that’s what it means to love what you do.
